Joel completed a BMus Honours degree in performance percussion. In August 2003, he went to the Miami School of Music to study for a Master’s degree under Dr. Ney Rosauro, a world famous percussionist and composer. While at Victoria, Joel won the Patricia Pratt Scholarship in Performance Music, which helped him in his studies in the United States.
