Malavika Gopal
Upon moving to Switzerland in September 2010, Malavika enjoyed a number of successes as a founding member of the Excelsa (String) Quartet. The Excelsa Quartet studied with the notable Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne and Luzern and gained international recognition after winning First Prize and the European Music Competition for Youth Prize at the Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition in Holland. The Quartet also received the Audience Prize at Illzach Chamber Music Competition in France and were invited to participate at other prestigious competitions including P.P. Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy. The Quartet toured and gave concerts in France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, England and Holland. After an immensely rewarding and life-changing three years with Excelsa Quartet, Malavika moved to Leipzig, Germany to play with an orchestra she had heard of, and been in love with since she was a youngster—the world-renowned Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. She has been with them on an extended contract for the past two years.
