Michael studied at Victoria University/NZSM and, with the help of the Patricia Pratt Scholarship, at the Messiaen Academy in The Netherlands and the Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg in France. Since completing his Masters in 2007, he has been in demand as a teacher and orchestral/chamber musician, working with groups such as the Radio Chamber Orchestra (NL), Rotterdam Philharmonic, Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Hanumi Saxophone Quartet. Michael returned to New Zealand in 2013, and has since become the saxophone teacher and reed coordinator at the University of Auckland. He regularly works with groups such as the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, and Rata Trio. Michael is a D'Addario Woodwinds and Selmer-Paris performing artist.
